A puha matrac vagy a kemény matrac jó?
Choosing the perfect mattress is one of the most important decisions you'll make in your home—it's the key to a good night's sleep, after all—but with so many options to buy, it can seem like an impossible task.
What to consider when choosing a mattress
The first and most important thing is to keep your spine straight when you lie down. Your sleeping position, body shape, and personal preferences for feel and materials all play a role in which mattress is right for you. You also need to consider cost, comfort, durability, and sleep-related issues—such as whether you sleep hot, have a sore back, or are woken up by your sleeping partner.
What makes a mattress hard or soft?
First, most mattress manufacturers use a scale of 1 to 10 to rate the firmness of their mattresses. At Honest, we also use a scale of 1 to 10, with 6.5 being considered moderately hard. Anything below 6.5 will be on the softer end of the spectrum and anything above 6.5 will be firmer.
The hardness of the mattress is primarily determined by its structure and material. For example, an innerspring mattress with no real comfort layer is likely to be firmer. Of course, the quality of the coils also affects the hardness and support of the mattress, but in general, innerspring mattresses will be harder than average. Latex mattresses tend to be firmer and more supportive; Latex is a very durable and dense material that doesn't have quite the properties of some foam mattresses.
Pros and Cons of Soft Mattresses
Pressure relief is really where soft mattresses shine. They allow side sleepers to sink in a little more and reduce pressure on the shoulders and hips. Also, people tend to describe soft mattresses as "more comfortable".
Although very soft and pressure-relieving, soft mattresses generally lack support. They are usually not able to support heavier weights and do not always provide enough support for back and stomach sleepers.
Also, when people sink into a soft mattress, they have a harder time moving and changing positions at night. When sunken, they may also complain that they sleep hot because a good part of their body is not exposed to the air in the bedroom.
Advantages and disadvantages of firm mattresses
Firm mattresses have many advantages, the most important of which is support. Firm mattresses are more supportive than soft mattresses and keep the body up rather than sinking too low. When lying on a hard mattress, most people feel that they are sleeping "on top" of the mattress and
they should have no real problem with moving on the mattress.
This also makes hard mattresses colder than soft mattresses. If you lie more on top of the mattress, more of your body will be exposed to the air moving in the bedroom.
Who should choose a hard mattress?
Stomach sleepers. People who primarily sleep on their stomachs need a mattress that provides enough support throughout their body, but especially under their hips. A firm mattress should provide the necessary support under the hips to keep the spine in a neutral position.
Some back sleepers. While most back sleepers would do well with a medium-firm mattress, some find a firm mattress just right. As long as the mattress allows the hips to sink in a bit, it may be suitable for sleeping on the back. If a mattress is too soft, it may not be the best mattress for back sleepers.
Bigger people. Sleepers on the heavier side usually require more support than a soft mattress can provide. Firmer mattresses usually provide more support and can support more body weight.
Those who like to sleep on top of the mattress. Firm mattresses prevent people from sinking too far. This makes them a better fit for those who like to sleep on top of the mattress.
Hot sleepers. As I mentioned above, hard mattresses tend to sleep cooler than soft mattresses. Softer mattresses, especially memory foam mattresses, can capture body heat and direct it back toward the sleeper. This is much less likely on a hard mattress.
People with mobility impairments. If you have difficulty moving due to an injury or health problem, choose a firm mattress. A firm mattress makes it easy to change positions and get in and out of bed without getting stuck.
